[The Wonderduck is still docked on the snowy planet for a few more days. Sometime in the evening, there'll be three knocks on the door to the engine room or wherever else Lloyd may be.]
[ Lloyd had gotten used to hearing the sound of footsteps approaching and passing by the engine room, so he doesn't pay much mind to this particular set. the only thing he wasn't used to was someone knocking on the door. curious, he abandons his latest project to answer, opening the door enough to peek outside. ]
Kaneis? [ he pushes the door open some more, combing his hand through his hair. ] What's up?
[Kaneis meanwhile, felt extremely nervous. He didn't want to do this, but he's run out of excuses. So...here he is. Wearing his winter coat and gloves (though he's missing that scarf).]
Hey Lloyd- are you busy? [Right. Just get it over it] I was wondering if you wanted to...go for a walk? [Ugh, that sounded lame. He rubs the back of his neck] And you know, talk.
[ oh? this is a pleasant surprise. never minding the odd sense of deja vu he's feeling, he steps out of the engine room, closing the door behind him. ]
Uhh, sure. Lemme go grab my cloak. [ he gestures to the cabin, since he... kinda left it there. ]
[The jobs on the moons had been going well. Turns out mercenary work was pretty easy when there were no hordes of monsters or extremists to screw things up. And so after one rather uneventful transport job, they ended up grabbing some food in a diner in Adsum. Sure, the food (meat) didn't taste as good here as Abeo- but it was pretty decent. And Kaneis much preferred how much he didn't get into trouble on this moon]
[Though, right now he seems more occupied with a lock of his hair that he's holding in front of his face ]
Think I should cut my hair?
[Why he'd ask Lloyd of all people- who the hell knows. Maybe he's not thinking]
[ "easy but boring" indeed. he didn't mind the work since it beat having to stagnate in the engine room for days, but Lloyd was holding back the entire time from complaining about how bored he was with their latest transport job. it ended soon enough, sparing his sanity and distracting himself with his latest meal. the quality of the meat didn't bother him too much-- he had stocked the ship's icebox with loads of meat from Abeo and intended to get more later on.
he was only half-paying attention to his surroundings, keeping a distracted ear on Kaneis when he mentioned getting a haircut as he took a quick drink--
wait.
did he hear that right? ]
A haircut? [ that's new. ] What brought this on?
[ he definitely sounds interested, but also confused. that was kind of out of left field, man, and sort of the last thing he expected to hear from him. ]
[Okay, that wasn't really the reason. Maybe part but not exactly. He lets go of his lock and looks at Lloyd]
I dunno. It's been a pain to take care of out here. Between me and Flora, there's never enough shampoo to go around. And...a change wouldn't so bad, right?
[ he takes a moment to mull over it. in the end, it's still Kaneis's hair so he has the final say on what he does with it. but it'd definitely be a pretty drastic change, considering how nitpicky Zelos was with his outer appearance. at least, to Lloyd's memory.
but hey, change can be a good thing; a step forward, even. if Kaneis is all for it, then Lloyd is too. ]
Why not? It's like you said, a change like that is definitely a good thing. If you wanna cut your hair, go for it!
[ though riku's gotten a few dirty looks here and there, he's been mostly left alone.
mostly.
good--because he can't handle more trouble. he hasn't sparred or trained in a good while, so he's decided to just take a short walk into the forest. there's a good, wide clearing that's good enough to practice forms in. sigh... he doesn't like tree branches as makeshift weapons, though, especially just picked off the ground. he even makes a grimace as he starts snapping off parts of the branch he doesn't need, before he takes out one of the small knives he'd bought a waystation ago.
he starts to whittle some of the wood off. in the end, it's a slightly curved branch, but it cuts through air much better than a regular branch. good.
he moves through his forms methodically, like someone who knows them from the back of their hand--but there's spells peppered through them. a slow here, a sleep there...
and then, he hears a crunch, and whips around, casting bind instantly.
[ for the most part, Lloyd's been left alone. sure he got some looks here and there for his hairstyle, but he's been treated fine as he returned frequently to stock up on the meat. maybe the swords at his hip had something to do with it, or maybe he really does exude tough manliness. who knows?
speaking of his swords, there was a particular reason why he had them today, and not just for show. he still needed to keep up with his training. he couldn't slack off now, not after he promised himself as such when they were at the last planet. he made his way towards the neighboring forests, looking for a clearing when he heard the sounds of someone training on their own.
someone familiar.
he peeks through the trees and finds Riku just a ways away, with the same idea he had. this is cool! maybe he could talk him into being a sparring partner! he could definitely see how much his training paid off then. he walks into the clearing, getting ready to greet him, when...
welp. ]
H-hey! [ he struggles against his binds, clearly having fallen for it like a bona fide sucker. ] Uh. Little help?
[ dang, and here he was hoping to fool everyone into thinking it was insomnia-- no just kidding, he would have told everyone after leaving the moons but eh.
he looks up from his latest wood-carving project (that he just started) when he hears Kaneis call out. ]
Hey! [ he sets his stuff aside, blinking confusedly at him. ] Nah, everything's running fine. Why, what's up?
[Sorry bro maybe the others don't know but it's kinda hard to hide it from a guy who also doesn't sleep]
[But oh, thank goodness. He's not rewiring the fridge or something weird]
Nothing- I just got a possible job for you, if you're interested. Someone on the Bishop- Krista? She's looking to start a library and could use some shelves made.
[After his fight with Cole and Chris, Kaneis is in a right mood. He's moody and sullen the rest of the day, trying to avoid socializing more than usual. One too many buttons got pressed for him. The anger and hurt felt raw and strong]
[It's pretty late until he finally decides stewing about it himself wasn't doing anything good. Especially when he feels like most parts of the ship he has to worry about someone shimmering in. So finally, he gives up, and heads to Lloyd's quarters- knocking on the door]
[ despite not being around for the argument, Lloyd was able to feel the heavy atmosphere permeating through the Wonderduck-- which in turn made him feel uneasy and wonder just what had happened. everyone seemed unusually avoidant, and it would have gotten om his nerves if it wasn't so damn concerning.
thankfully he doesn't have to think about it much when he opens the door, only mildly surprised to see that it's Kaneis behind it. whatever surprise there was is quickly wiped off in favor of a smile. ]
Nah, come on in. Make yourself comfortable. [ he steps aside, allowing Kaneis room to enter his quarters. he almost asks him if anything happened, but he stops himself-- if Kaneis wants to share, then he'll let him share at his own pace. ]
[He gives a little nod as he comes in. Lloyd room looks...well, like his. Small, cramp - just less books lying around. He internally debates if he should sit on the bed or just stand ....until he realizes standing in a corner might be really creepy looking. So he moves to sit on the corner of the bed.]
...Thanks.
Just...kinda felt like being somewhere where I don't have to worry about someone shimmering in.
[That and being around this Lloyd tended to make him feel better. Much better than he'd feel if he was left alone with his own cycling thoughts. Either way, the mention of shimmering was definitely an opening]
Hello. This is Allen Walker, one of the medics that worked at the Blood Drive. I'm contacting you about the test results from the blood you donated earlier this month.
If you could contact me on a secure channel at your convenience to discuss your results, that would be wonderful. My Frequency Number is [Insert one here!].
[oh good he got the message. His responses come pretty quick]
Ah, hello Lloyd! Thank you for texting me back.
I'm hoping nothing serious is wrong. It's just that on the tests that I administered to all the blood donations - yours scored rather low on....several tests. [Just like your academic career] So I was hoping to check in and make sure you're feeling alright!
[a pause]
And well, I suppose there's also the small matter that your blood has been glowing in the dark.
[Hey Lloyd you must be getting used to these late night contacts right? Well, he's been a bit worried about you since the last round of toxicosis- so time to try his way of reaching out]
So I've been thinking.
You should like get- a bunch of piercings while we're here. Like in spots that are supposed to be painful? I dunno, maybe a tattoo too?
I mean, just think how tough you'd look not even flinching. You could totally get a rep of being a badass.
