*Except for Kvar. That guy can burn in hell.
Always Keep In Mind: While Lloyd is the token idiot protagonist of the group with his simplistic vocabulary and naive outlook on the world, he's also someone who would rather judge a person for what they've done rather than who or what they are. He's brash, but kind, and treats everybody as his equal. When things get serious, he knows it's time to man up and leave the jokes at the door. He almost always takes the role of leader.

Questions: Write an IC answer to the following questions:
What do you want to study at Diatu Magicademy?
"I only really knew about two or three different kinds of magic, I didn't know there were more! It'd be pretty cool to learn the kinds of things Genis can do, or what Zelos and my dad know. Isn't there also a way you could power weapons and other stuff with magic? Forging, right? I wanna learn that, too!"
If you knew you could go back to the moment you left, would you leave immediately or continue your studies for a while?
"Learning how to use magic is awesome and all, but I would definitely go right back home. I've got a mission I need to do, one that's going to take a while to finish, and I can't slack off just because I could learn a new way of fighting."
If your enemy was at Diatu Magicademy, how would you react?
"I… I dunno. I'd probably be mad. Not at them, but at the people who brought them here. They should all be allowed to rest."
When is it acceptable to resolve a dispute by force?
"If I had a say in it: probably never. But sometimes you get that one guy that just makes you have to fight even if you don't want to, and… you don't really have much of a choice."
What should the supreme goal of any wizard be?
"I think that's something the wizard should figure out on their own, just like everyone else. I mean, yeah you can cast magic, but it's what you do with it that matters, and you shouldn't have to follow anyone's ideas if it's not something you would be happy following.
"…I guess the ultimate goal should be to figure out your own path. Just don't be a jerk about it, either."
Special Considerations
Your Special Something: An Item of Power
Rank Your House Choice:
1. Eiather (for the irony)

3. Aet et Calculum
Powers: Lloyd is primarily an offensive fighter, using two swords and a collection of artes (or techs) to rain fast and heavy sword-based elemental/energy attacks on his enemies. There are technically two trees of attacks that Lloyd can use, but considering all the other titles he's in utilizes his attacks from specifically one of these trees, I will be playing him from the "canon" tree: the Technical Artes tree.
Besides that, while he hasn't explicitly shown any proof of learning these abilities, there is a little something that happened to him towards the end of the game that could lead to additional abilities: namely, the remnants of Mithos's Cruxis Crystal allowing Lloyd's own Exsphere (whose host was originally the subject used for the Angelus Project, Lloyd's mother) to mutate into a Cruxis Crystal and turn Lloyd into an angel. This potentially gives him additional abilities along with the obvious ability for him to sprout large, blue translucent wings, many of which are light/holy-based. As mentioned before, none of this is explicitly confirmed as canon, as in the sequel Dawn of the New World, he's not shown to use any abilities that could hint to his angelic transformation. Knowing his character, however, it's pretty safe to say that he could know at least how to summon his wings and potentially learn to cast the first angelic spell "Angel Feathers", he just simply chooses not to.
Items:
Kratos's locket - A simple, oval-shaped gold locket. It contains a picture of Kratos, Anna, and baby Lloyd. Noblewear - A snazzy set of white and blue clothes well-suited for formal parties. They were tailored specifically to Lloyd's measurements. Material Blades - A pair of magic-based swords — one red, and one blue. Lloyd received these from both of his fathers, the red one from Kratos and the blue one from Dirk.
Anything Else: I know living beings don't come along with the character upon arrival, but later on down the road, would there be opportunities for Lloyd to reunite with hisprotozoan canine companion Noishe? This isn't a make-or-break kind of thing, just something I was curious about.
In addition, I noticed the question you answered for Hope about keeping enhanced physical abilities; considering Lloyd also has something along this nature (enhanced physical prowess, enabling him to fight better and even jump off high cliffs) thanks to a physical object, his Exspherewhich he kind of needs to survive now, would this also apply to him?

► IDEALISTIC ◄
It says a lot when the first entry of the code of morals you follow is: "Let's all work together for a peaceful world". Having grown up with the Dwarven Vows, it's clear that the collection of anecdotes have made an impact on the teen, as he's been repeatedly called the idealist of the group. All Lloyd wishes for is absolute peace, a world where no one must fight because of their differences, and can live in absolute harmony. He's aware that such a goal will be difficult, if not impossible, to attain, but he still holds steadfast to the hopes that he will one day see a world where anyone and everyone can live side-by-side with no strife. This idealistic outlook also helps him to be more accepting of people's differences: he doesn't care about lineages, blood ties, social status, or any of that jargon. All he cares about is a person's actions and what made them to be what they are today-- and even if it's bad, he can still see the good in most people and will always give someone another chance.► EMPATHETIC ◄
While Lloyd may seem like a brash individual at first, many people quickly find that he is a very understanding person. Lloyd is never a person to seriously judge someone for their misgivings, and is usually quick to forgive a person even if it seemed like they had a reason, good or otherwise, for Lloyd to resent them-- even towards people that could be considered his enemies*. Seeing someone suffering in silence is something Lloyd cannot stand, and he will do all he can to figure out a way to alleviate someone's misery, even if it leaves him frustrated and scrambling for answers. While this applies to the entire party, the best example of this would be his relationship with Colette: someone who was perfectly okay with suffering in silence. There were many times where Lloyd tried to find ways to help his friend's suffering, and he even cried after confirming that she'd been hiding her pain — not because he was mad at her, but because he was mad at himself for not noticing that his close childhood friend was enduring so much pain for the sake of regenerating the world.*Except for Kvar. That guy can burn in hell.
► HOT-HEADED ◄
While character development's helped him get better with this, Lloyd is still very much a spontaneous and energetic person. This is not always a good thing. Oftentimes, Lloyd has a tendency to act before he thinks, lashing out angrily before considering the situation he's in and taking the time to decide on a course of action. While he's usually pulled back by someone far more level-headed than he is, and while he does quickly cool down once he's smacked in the face with logic, this has also landed him in hot water with his enemies on a number of occasions. It's pretty fair to say that, while he's much more traveled, he still has a tendency to start yelling at someone if they hit one of his berserk buttons or fall victim to a good ol' fashioned "open mouth; insert foot."► HONEST ◄
Lloyd is surprisingly skilled at creating some little white lies — it doesn't mean that he enjoys it if a lie goes beyond that. As stated before, Lloyd grew up learning the Dwarven Vows, with one of them — number eleven — warning against lying: "Lying is the first step down the path of thievery". If the situation calls for it, he will be completely honest and forthcoming about the truth and what he feels is right, making it seem like he wears his heart on his sleeve. If he's asked to keep a secret, he can do it… but not at the expense of someone's well-being, such as when Colette begged him to not tell anyone of her condition when they were undergoing the Journey of Regeneration. In addition, he will not hold back his feelings towards a person for the sake of appearances: if he likes you or dislikes you for any reason (which is usually a good one), he will absolutely make it known.► SIMPLE-MINDED ◄
Lloyd is an idiot. Plain and simple. He's a kind person, but it doesn't excuse the fact that he's by far the dumbest character in the game. Oftentimes he's found at the butt of the joke because there's a concept that he completely misunderstood ("If one sword equals the power of 100, then two should equal the power of 200."), or there's something he doesn't understand and asks it with no shame whatsoever, despite the situation ("Professor, what's a 'philanderer'?"). He's also proven to be incredibly dense in some instances, completely missing the fact that at least two girls in his party are enamored by him.► RESOURCEFUL ◄
Genis was once quoted as saying Lloyd is someone who relies on and learns from instinct and intuition. His teacher, Raine, also stated that Lloyd learns better with his hands than his brain. It's been shown multiple times throughout canon that, while Lloyd is not that bright academically, he's skilled at using his hands and very clearly possesses a craftman's touch. This makes him a very surprisingly resourceful character, as he's been shown to be able to pick even some of the most technologically advanced locks with ease and even disarm a bomb that not even its original creator didn't know how to disarm. This resourcefulness also feeds into his idealistic outlook, as he's able to concoct some simple but sound plans with whatever's at his disposal.Always Keep In Mind: While Lloyd is the token idiot protagonist of the group with his simplistic vocabulary and naive outlook on the world, he's also someone who would rather judge a person for what they've done rather than who or what they are. He's brash, but kind, and treats everybody as his equal. When things get serious, he knows it's time to man up and leave the jokes at the door. He almost always takes the role of leader.

"Kaneis Major" (Zelos Wilder)"Look- You didn't screw up anything! It was my choice! Completely mine!" The Pilot of the Wonderduck and close comrade of Lloyd's that came from a… less-than-favorable dimension. Specifically, a dimension where Zelos had somehow lost his life. The details behind his death are still very up in the air, and Lloyd feels very conflicted seeing his friend like this-- partly because the dead shouldn't be able to come back and partly because Zelos shouldn't be dead in the first place. Lloyd would very much like to know the specific details behind his death — mainly, what was the cause behind it and who killed him if someone did — but he knows better than to push for those kinds of answers, especially with something this heavy. In the meantime, Lloyd will wait for as long as it takes until he's ready to share more and treat Kaneis the very same way as he treated his own Zelos: as a trusted and close friend. top⤴ |
|
(Captain) Flora"Lloyd, you are not fine, don't even start." The Captain and Cook of the Wonderduck. Kaneis was revived from death by a group known as the Initiative and placed into war in a place called Exsilium-- apparently, Flora's one of his friends from there. Lloyd personally doesn't have any problems with her and thinks she's a fine captain. She's very friendly, if not a little eccentric about her plants-- which Lloyd has zero issues with because it reminds him of home. Just stop growing tomato plants please. top⤴ |
|
Cole Turner
"You were generous enough to wake me up and saving me from the fate of drowning in steak sauce." The Communications Officer of the Wonderduck-- also apparently a demon. Lloyd didn't really have any issues with him despite the fact that they can actually kill each other just by being nearby, and actually felt guilty over spearing him with his wing even though it was angelic impulse. His argument with Kaneis, however, has him feeling conflicted, especially since the circumstances behind it reminded him all too much of Kratos's stunt at Origin's seal. He'll have to talk to him whenever he gets the chance… or if Cole will even allow it. top⤴ |
|
Robin Redbreast
"Wow, you've got great reflexes." A friend of Lloyd's that's aboard the Bloodsport. He doesn't know that Robin was the one who was killed back in January 2015, nor does he know about how he kept Nel as a slave, so his opinion on Robin is still pretty high. Talking to him is relaxing as they usually chat about whatever. Plus, they built robot arms together. That's hella cool. top⤴ |
|
Krista Kingsley
"I'll try… I'll really try, I promise." A girl from the Bishop that's currently running the Drift Fleet's library. The whispering she does is kind of weird, but Lloyd doesn't have any issues with her personally. In fact, he'd like to know more about her and call her a friend. He helped her with the library by building the shelves needed for all the books. top⤴ |
|
Riku
"I've got the feeling you'd forget your head if it wasn't attached, too." Another friend of Kaneis's and, by extension, a friend of Lloyd's. Considering the circumstances behind Kaneis's past, Lloyd is glad that he made a friend in Riku, even though the extent of their conversations are something that's lost on him. Lloyd would like to know more about Riku and talk to him more, and he especially wants to know about his battle prowess firsthand. He seems like a powerful fighter! top⤴ |
|
Nelkeila "Nel" Tarid
"Really? If you're sure…" An elf that Lloyd sometimes talks to. He's a little fidgety, but a nice person-- definitely different from the elves that Lloyd's familiar with. He's definitely someone he wouldn't mind talking to more. top⤴ |
|
Sora
"Is there some kinda rule that a bad guy has to come back three times after you beat him?" Another fighter! Lloyd's only talked to him once but he definitely wants to talk to him again, maybe spar with him whenever they get a chance to. He seems like a fun kid! Plus, his hair and clothes are awesome. top⤴ |
|
Varric Tethras
"You don't have nearly enough hair on your chin to claim you're a half-dwarf." A dwarf Lloyd met a while back and the third ever he's met so far. Quite frankly, he's never met a dwarf quite like him-- he can't help but compare him to Zelos in mannerisms. Despite their slightly rocky first conversation, Lloyd wouldn't mind chatting with him again. top⤴ |
|
Tohru Adachi
"Wait, are you not from Earth?" Some guy that Lloyd welcomed a while back. He seems nice enough, but he asks a lot of questions… top⤴ |
|
Ludger Kresnik
"Ahah… Just mixed a few ingredients to try to get something closer to real food." His cooking is magical holy shit. top⤴ |

"That's weird. If one sword has a power of 100, then using two will make it 200, right?" "...The snow bunny that Colette gave me. She protected me." "Oh. Is this all the Sorcerer's Ring does?" QUEST 1 - "THE BOG UNICORN" »pt. 2 - slaying the bog unicorn Lloyd began his search for the dryads early in the day, walking throughout the Greenwood for hours on end until it was almost nightfall. He managed to find some by the time the sun began to set and coaxed them out with kind words and the request from the Queen (after he accidentally scared them off, good job there, Irving). Under normal circumstances, they would have adhered to the Queens request, but they had concerns of their own that needed attention: A fell beast known as the Bog Unicorn had been terrorizing the forest, killing fauna and flora alike. The dryads offered Lloyd their help only if he slayed the Bog Unicorn for them. He agreed. When he began his search, night fell and it grew dark to the point where he was forced to summon his wings for a reliable light source. As he searched for any sign of the Bog Unicorn, he stumbled upon what's supposedly a natural clearing, filled with carnivorous plants and peculiar "fireflies" floating among the reeds. He began to investigate the clearing, which turned out to be a quaking bog, and he eventually stumbled upon the massive Bog Unicorn. Its slow movements and overall sad sight brought pity, and after a plea for help Lloyd believed to be from the "unicorn" (it was actually from the "fireflies"), he beheaded the Bog Unicorn with a quick and accurate Demon Fang. The "fireflies" - or rather, spores - were released from the horse and spread through the forest without Lloyd's knowing. Before leaving to find the dryads, Lloyd made a grave for the horse, using the sword that was lodged in its head as a marker. SUCCESS NOV. EVENT - "THE UPRISING DEAD" "The tulip mounds rot with the sunrise of the fifteenth day. From them rise up large spectral dogs with blank fiery eyes that roam the six realms and attack anyone with a shard. These, the monarchs will inform the realms, are the restless souls claimed by Black Shuck, cast out and damned until felled by the fearless; the trouble with slaying the hungry beasts lies in their ability to inspire ones greatest terrors to grip the heart. As a result, they are difficult to destroy. A royal command will be issued to all shard-holders, instructing them to fortify the castles and all those who are able to ride out and destroy the demonic dogs. Seelie and Unseelie alike will be granted a royal favour at the end of the month." »pt. 2 - slaying the dogs The moment he heard the request given out, Lloyd and Noishe set to work in collecting as many bones in the Caer Glaem area as possible; Lloyd was taught to always respect the dead, so there was no protest when the official decree was given out. He was given assistance by a couple of others who were also putting in effort to respect the dead until Flora joined in and became a permanent partner. With their combined efforts (with Flora doing most of the work thanks to her nature-based abilities), the trio were able to move a substantial amount of bones from the earth to the kingdom's crypt. This continued on for several days without incident until the 15, where shadows in the form of dogs began appearing across the Drabwurld. Lloyd and Flora were ambushed by a group of those dogs when they were about to do their collecting for the day. They quickly learned that the dogs were not entirely physical attackers, as they were able to tap into both of their minds and unveil their biggest fears: losing their loved ones in some way or form. As their fears were revealed at different instances — first Flora's then Lloyd's — they were able to help each other get a hold of their senses and finish off the dogs with only some injury. SUCCESS As reward for his efforts in collecting the bones and slaying the dogs, Lloyd was given Kratos's old locket, which contained a picture of baby Lloyd and his parents, as a way to speak to his deceased mother. QUEST 2 - "ECO-FRIENDLY WARRIORS" »pt. 2 - uniting with Flora »pt. 3 - fighting the beast During an unexpected meeting with Emil which turned into a belated gift exchange, Lloyd was approached by a messenger who sought Lloyd's and Emil's combined expertise with monsters. They were informed of the anti-shardbearer movements occurring throughout the Drabwurld, and how one group of them entrapped several dryads and a naiad in order to create a monster specifically for slaying shardbearers. Lloyd readily accepted the mission, remembering his relationship with the dryads due to his previous quest, and he and Emil both set out atop of the latter's pet fenrir, Topo. On the way there, the pair met up with Flora, who also sought out the beast. They invited her to team up in slaying the beast and freeing the trapped nymphs. PENDING | ||

IN-CHARACTER:
Character name: Lloyd Irving
Character journal:
idealistic
Series name: Tales of Symphonia
Canon notes:Lloyd is going to be taken from about a year and a half after the first game, several days before his disappearance and the Palmacosta Blood Purge from the beginning of Dawn of the New World.
What should be noted about Tales of Symphonia is that it follows several "routes" depending on how much affection a character accumulates for Lloyd. With the exception of one due to a character death, they all follow the same timeline of events with only minor differences, those differences being who Lloyd ends up closest to and invites to join him on his quest on collecting the remaining Exspheres. Lloyd here in particular will be taken from Colette's route, A.K.A. the "default" route.
In addition, Tales of Symphonia has a lot of extra canon goodies that can be found in several different forms, those being an animated OVA, a manga series, light novels, and drama CDs. I will be taking some extra details from these media, such as a couple of the extra chapters from the manga (The events that happened when Dirk found Lloyd and Colette's birthday party), the light novel Successors of Hope, and some of the more serious drama CDs, to help fill in the blanks that occurred before and after Tales of Symphonia. The OVA, however, is considered an AU of the original events and will not be included in any of his history.
Species:Short answer: We just don't know.
Long answer: No matter how you look at him, Lloyd is physically, mentally, and emotionally human. He bleeds, he breathes; he has a brain (although many people are convinced it's collecting cobwebs), a heart, lungs; he laughs, he cries, he mourns... you get the idea. Despite that, there is something that is Not Quite Right with Lloyd, something that only those who know him personally know about and those sensitive to souls might be able to figure out. On his left hand is where, what could be, a special Exsphere known as a Cruxis Crystal is mounted: a soul-sucking rock that grants the wielder enhanced strength and abilities. The more finer points on it will be saved for the Abilities section, but in short, it fucked up his humanity-- whether it was for better or worse is debatable. The moment endgame events happened (again, will be covered in Abilities), he essentially became a pseudo-immortal being with the ability to summon wings at will; in Tales of Symphonia, these beings were commonly referred to as angels.
Still, we're not quite 100% sure on whether or not Lloyd became a tried-and-true "angel" like Colette or Kratos, as he's yet to display any other abilities that could only be done by angels (see: angelic magic), even in the sequel. Thus, we just don't know.
History:Lloyd
Tales of Symphonia
ToS: Dawn of the New World
Personality:If someone had to pick a single word that accurately encompassed everything that was Lloyd Irving, that word would be "simple".
That's it. He's just simple.
Having grown up in a quaint village that's a ways away from the rest of the world, Lloyd grew up with a fairly black-and-white mindset. It's not until he's metaphorically thrown into the lake before learning to swim where he realizes that the world is not quite as simple as his mindset is. While for others, a simplistic mindset could be considered ignorance and their ultimate undoing, for Lloyd, it's his biggest weapon and his saving grace.
One thing to note about Lloyd is that he's not very smart. In fact, he's plain book dumb. He does hold a surprising amount of logic, though the way he tends to take things literally has a tendency to skew his logic ("That's weird. If one sword has a power of 100, then using two will make it 200, right?"), but there's no denying that Lloyd still gets piss poor grades (though whether it's because of his lack of knowledge or because of such disinterest in learning that he goes so far as to falling asleep during punishment for falling asleep in class) and ends up as the butt of the joke more often than not. Several examples are spread out throughout the more lighthearted parts of the game: For example, in a test where the final score was 400, Lloyd ended up with the lowest score at 25. Another prime example would be when he properly used the word "avaricious", which is a bit above his pay grade when it comes to vocabulary-- it brought Raine to a point that's very similar to her "ruin mode", exciting her and scaring the bejeesus out of Lloyd, ruining what could have been a rather serious moment.
In combination with his stupidity, Lloyd can be qualified as a bona fide shonen hero since he's known to be rather emotive. Unlike most of the characters that are a part of his group, he doesn't hide behind a "mask" of emotions; He wears his heart on his sleeve and if he's feeling something, he'll display it with a fierceness that could set anyone back. If he's upset or angry at something, he will let you know. If he's happy or excited about traveling through a new area, he will annoyingly let you know. If he quickly grew bored of whatever he was excited about, he will (much to others' chagrin and annoyance) let you know. His emotive nature also lends to how he's a bit of a hothead and impulsive, which often leads him into trouble. If it weren't for the other characters holding him back as he was kicking and thrashing, it's very likely that Lloyd's impulsive nature would have led him to a premature death.
Even though he has his usual flare ups, what sets Lloyd apart from other hotheads is that he's not only able to acknowledge what he did or said and where he messed up, but genuinely apologize for it and learn from it so that he (probably) won't make the same mistake again. He may be harsh in some cases, but Lloyd is genuinely a good person through and through, and seeks nothing but the protection and wellbeing of his friends-- which can extend to more than just the party thanks to his "make-ALL-the-friends" attitude. Though he If he discovers something that's been ailing his friends too late, he's quick to blame himself for not catching onto it sooner. A prime example of this is Colette: The guilt that he feels for not noticing what the angelic transformation is actually doing to her eats away at him so much that he breaks down into tears.
He may have achieved feats that no ordinary person can, there's no denying that Lloyd is still human, both physically and mentally. He's dealt with blow after blow, falling many times and discovering that life is plain unfair. From being banished from Iselia, to discovering that Colette was slowly dying and Kratos turning on them at the Tower of Salvation, to discovering that very same traitor is also his biological father-- Lloyd has had his fair share of Heroic BSODs that could easily cause him to fall into despair just as Mithos had before him. The only difference between Lloyd and Mithos, as Kratos and Yuan pointed out, is that Mithos gave in and fell to despair whereas Lloyd always managed to pick himself back up regardless of how bad things looked, whether on his own or with the help of his friends, and always searched for another solution to a problem even if he had to make one himself. His stubbornness could count as one of his more endearing traits, as it was because of his stubbornness that he was able to sway Origin, who had lost all hope in humanity and refused to help them (THANKS, MITHOS), to help their cause.
As stated several times before, Lloyd is a very chummy guy. He's impressionable in a sense, but only through what he sees and not through word of mouth. He's able to see the good (or bad) in a person, even if it takes him a while to fully acknowledge it, and is usually quick to forgive or befriend someone even if they didn't have a good reason. When Raine and Genis are revealed to be part of the scorned half-elves rather than full-blooded elves, Lloyd thinks nothing of it-- to him, Raine is still his teacher and Genis is still his best friend. When Colette approached him about how her becoming an angel made her weird or how she technically had two fathers, Lloyd reassured her that no matter her lineage or what she became, she's still Colette Brunel to him. When Zelos "betrayed" the party in order to go behind enemy lines, Lloyd quickly welcomed him back into the party with open arms. Even Kratos, who had betrayed Lloyd's trust several times over, had earned Lloyd's forgiveness and mercy ("I defeated Kratos, the angel, the one who betrayed us. And I forgive Kratos, the hero of the Ancient War, who helped us."), who in turn chastised him for being "as soft-hearted as ever". At the same time, he holds regrets if he isn't able to help a friend of if he's too late in helping them: Zelos could also be an example of this if he does honestly betray the party, for Lloyd will regret never helping Zelos when he needed it so that he wouldn't have to resort to betrayal. Mithos also applies to this: after finally destroying his Cruxis Crystal, Lloyd laments at how they could have been great friends because they shared similar ideals.
All in all, Lloyd is just a teenager who loves his friends, hates tomatoes with a burning passion, is kind of really stupid, and has seen more than most kids his age, yet still wants nothing more than a world where everyone is accepting of each other. In Dawn of the New World he's wisened up a little from his abrasive attitude, though he seems to take a page from Kratos's book in turn and distances himself from his friends to work on a secret agenda that would benefit his loved ones, making him into something of a massive hypocrite. Delving further into this could shed some insight into why he's behaving like this in the first place — which, to put it simply, was to protect his comrades from a force that only he could handle without having his mind destroyed — but since he's yet to be given the big task that caused him to behave this way, one can probably assume that he's still more or less the same seventeen-year-old boy that contributed to the Journey of Regeneration, but a touch more mature.
Just a touch.
Abilities:Swordsmanship
I wouldn't exactly call Lloyd a genius at swordplay. Hell, it's a joke to call him a genius at all: his only reasoning for wielding two swords is because he believed that double the swords meant double the power. Regardless of his reasoning for wielding two swords, however, Lloyd manages to make it work. He's had a significant amount of training in dual-wielding — at first on his own and then with guidance from Kratos — and has developed into a very formidable opponent that could best even an immature ex-summon spirit with hardly a turn of his blades. It'd be a bit unfair to say that he's such a great swordsman to the point of being OP, but he can certainly hold his own in a battle, though he still has quite a bit to learn.
Exsphere
Even with his received training from Kratos — who was a knight in his prime — on his own, Lloyd's ability at swordsmanship could be described as "good" at best. The majority of Lloyd's abilities actually comes from his Exsphere: a mysterious parasitic stone that grants the wearer enhanced abilities. On its own, an Exsphere is dangerous when attached directly to the skin, as it feeds off of the host body until it is matured and gradually kills off the host-- ironically, the positive effects of an Exsphere only work if it's directly attached to the skin. Lloyd's Exsphere, however, does not feed off of Lloyd as it is also attached to a Key Crest: a dwarven accessory with a charm inscribed on it to negate the negative effects.
Since Lloyd kind of needs it to survive for reasons both explained here and will be explained later on, he will be keeping it and its combat abilities will simply be dampened.
Artes
Lloyd's collection of artes (which can be viewed here and here) leaves him as a purely offensive fighter, allowing him to manipulate mana to enhance his attacks by allowing him to send out shock waves or things of that nature. His hidden special attack, Divine Justice, is a rendition of his first special attack (Falcon's Crest) that could only be done when he has the Material Blades equipped. Unlike Falcon's Crest, which could only activate when he's under stress (read: low on HP), Lloyd is able to perform Divine Justice at any time.
Craftsmanship
Despite his sometimes brash attitude, Lloyd is actually surprisingly good with his hands. Having grown up under the tutelage of a dwarf, Lloyd is capable of crafting some basic dwarven works, which is usually limited to simple accessories (such as necklaces or bracelets) or crude key crests. He is also shown to be able to operate basic machinery after some investigating and pick locks with ease; a skill that's been demonstrated more than once when he ended up behind bars. Under further tutelage, he may be able to craft other things such as basic weaponry, though that ability is still a ways away.
Exsphere Pt. 2 (Cruxis Crystal???)
Based on events from the end of Tales of Symphonia, it is implied that the remnants of Mithos's Cruxis Crystal allowed Lloyd's Exsphere (whose host was originally the subject used for the Angelus Project, Lloyd's mother) to fully evolve into a proper Cruxis Crystal. What this implies is that Lloyd has entered and endured the first stage of the Angelic Transformation-- having endured only the first stage, however, his abilities as an "angel" are very limited in comparison to someone like Colette, who has endured all of them. Such abilities thus far are:
- Enhanced senses, specifically hearing
- No longer required to consume nutrients (food or drink).
- Halted metabolism, meaning a prolonged (indefinite) lifespan.*
- Ability to summon large blue translucent wings to allow him to fly.
It is unclear whether the wings were a "one-time wonder" or if he still does hold the ability to summon them and simply chooses not to, as he has yet to summon them again in Dawn of the New World, where he constantly traveled using a rheiard. For simplicity's sake, let's just say that his Exsphere did properly mutate into a Cruxis Crystal and he does still have the ability to summon his wings along with having his other "angelic" abilities, but he simply chooses not to acknowledge them just yet.
*Despite having an indefinite, near-eternal lifespan, this does not mean he is immortal. Lloyd is still susceptible to death through outside circumstances such as severe injury, poison, mana exhaustion, etc. Destroying his Exsphere in particular would theoretically end his life as well.

Sample:[ IN THIS EPISODE, there's something hinky going on with the ship's ventilation system, and who better to fix it than the ship's resident baby engineer?! the transmission comes on in the ships bowels, the communicator perched fairly high - about eye level with Lloyd - as he turns back to the ventilation hood behind him once he's sure it won't topple over. ]
Okay guys, I'm pretty sure this is the last spot I need to check. All the other ones looked okay, but I found this... weird fur in the last one, so whatever's been messing around in our vent's definitely around this spot!
Now if I could just... [ grunt ] Get this... [ pull ] Stupid--!! [ yeah that sucker's not budging. Lloyd puts his foot on the wall for extra leverage as he tries again. ]
Nrrgh... Come on-- WAAUGH! [ the door pops open and out comes dozens, possibly hundreds, of what could basically be described as brown, football-sized fur balls with a larger amount of small, white ones from the vents. they almost seem to be never-ending as Lloyd is effectively buried by them while they continue to fill the room.
eventually they finally stop, and out comes Lloyd from the pile, trying to catch his breath. he pulls off a white one that just so happened to stick it out on his head, staring at it with wide eyes before he looks around. ]

Canon notes:
Species:
History:
Tales of Symphonia
ToS: Dawn of the New World
Personality:
CANON & CANON POINT: Tales of Symphonia. The canon point is during Dawn of the New World, after leaving everyone behind at Cape Fortress.
In addition, I'll be using some of the extra material aside from the game (extra chapters from the manga, certain drama CDs, and side novels) to add on to his canon as they provide more insight to his past and what occurred between Tales of Symphonia and Dawn of the New World. The OVA is considered an AU and thus I will not be going near it even with a 39.5 foot pole.
CANON INFORMATION:
Tales of Symphonia
ToS: Dawn of the New World
As there are some slight but notable differences here and there depending on the route chosen, we'll say that Lloyd is taken from Colette's route, like the Zelos currently ingame. In addition, I will be using the extra chapters from the manga that involved him (Dirk finding Lloyd and Colette's first birthday party) as well as a couple of the drama CDs (notably A Long Time Ago-- others will be added on when I get around to listening to them) and the novel Successors of Hope to explain what had occurred between ToS and DotNW. As for any headcanon notes, the only thing I would add on is that Lloyd ended up suffering from a bout of Angel Toxicosis shortly after naming the newly planted World Tree and receiving Martel's blessing, since... you know. He turned into an angel at endgame and stuff.
PERSONALITY:
What's surprising about Lloyd is that what he lacks in brains he more than makes up for in wisdom: his logic and ability to think on his feet, with the former being a bit out-there and not quite fine-tuned, is unmatched. In fact, it was Lloyd's idea to use Tethe'alla's Summon Spirits to counteract and neutralize Sylvarant's mana flowing through the uncontrollable Giant Kharlan Tree.
Mithos also applies to this: after finally destroying his Cruxis Crystal, Lloyd laments at how they could have been great friends because they shared similar ideals.
All in all, in Tales of Symphonia Lloyd is just a teenager who loves his friends, hates tomatoes with a burning passion, is kind of really stupid, and has seen more than most kids his age, yet still wants nothing more than a world where everyone is accepting of each other. In Dawn of the New World though, he's notably matured and somehow managed to hide all of what he was in the first game under a mask that is eerily similar to Kratos's attitude. For most of the game, he takes on the role as the antagonist by constantly being at odds with the game's protagonist, Emil, and racing against him for the Centurion's cores. He's distant, brooding, and keeps everyone, even his cherished friends, at arm's length. Since he was suspected of leading the Palmacosta Blood Purge and the attack on Flanoir, it's only natural to think that his ideals had changed at some point during his six month absence and that he wasn't the same Lloyd as the one from two years' past... except that's not quite the case.
Despite clearly having matured from his brash 17-year-old self and "gracefully" entering adulthood, Lloyd is still very much the same brave, idealistic boy that lived on the outskirts of Iselia... which means he's still fully capable of making stupid decisions. Having received the mission of retrieving the Centurion's cores in an attempt at stopping Ratatosk from usurping Martel, Lloyd undertook the mission on his own without telling his comrades not as a means of defecting from them, but as a means of protecting them as well as the world. Taking a page from Kratos, in order to protect both his friends and the Tree, he developed a personal agenda, keeping his friends at arm's length as he went about to retrieve the cores himself. To him, his comrades are precious and he'd much rather keep them away from a situation that could potentially put them in danger. While his actions were already irrational, it's taken a step further with the accusations of leading multiple massacres: instead of blaming another like a normal person would, he blames himself for not being able to stop the massacres from happening and distances himself further ("Not Palmacosta again..."), not having the heart to face his friends just yet, which would explain his brooding attitude.
It's only after he saves them from a harrowing situation and properly explains the situation to them along with Yuan at the World Tree that he becomes less like Kratos Aurion Jr. and more like Lloyd Irving. In the end, he hasn't really changed at all aside from somehow obtaining a cooler head and turning into a massive hypocrite. All one would need to do is a bit of coaxing and they're sure to find the very same hothead from two years' past.
COURT ALLIANCE & REASONING:
Since the beginning of the game, it's made clear that Lloyd is a true Seelie. Since he was a child, he has grown up learning the many Dwarven Vows from his adoptive father, which essentially sums up to "don't be a dick, know your limits, and live honestly and selflessly", and it's foundation behind everything that is Lloyd. He has a strong sense of justice, views everyone with equality, and sees only the best in everyone, the only exception being people he deems absolutely evil (see: Kvar). In tangent with his ability to see good in everyone, he's given many people the benefit of the doubt and went out of his way to help anyone he could, even if they hated him at the moment or didn't want his help in the first place.
Even Dawn of the New World, where he was viewed as an antagonist for most of the game, is clear with this. He distances himself from his dear comrades and refuses to talk to them, risking accusations and/or alienation, all to protect them from the harmful effects of the Centurion's cores. Not only did Lloyd have his friends in mind when he went solo, but the well-being of the world and the Great Tree as well: for Ratatosk to overpower the new Summon Spirit of the newly-planted Great Tree, Martel, he needs to know the true name of the Tree. Since Lloyd and co. are the only ones who know the name of the tree and Lloyd was the only one who received the blessing of Martel by naming the tree, only he was able to collect the Centurion's cores out of the group without any adverse effects. He took on this job without a word to anyone simply because he felt it was his duty to protect his friends and the world by doing this.
Granted, it was not the best way to handle it-- no one ever said that Lloyd was the brightest crayon in the box, after all.
ABILITIES:
- No longer required to consume nutrients (food or drink).
- Halted metabolism, meaning a prolonged (indefinite) lifespan.*
- Ability to summon large blue translucent wings to allow him to fly.
It is unclear whether the wings were a "one-time wonder" or if he still does hold the ability to summon them and simply chooses not to, as he has yet to summon them again in Dawn of the New World, where he constantly traveled using a rheiard. For simplicity's sake, let's just say that his Exsphere did properly mutate into a Cruxis Crystal and he does still have the ability to summon his wings along with having his other "angelic" abilities, but he simply chooses not to acknowledge them just yet-- which is something he will have to acknowledge when he arrives since his rheiard will no longer work and he's still trying to avoid his friends. :')
*Despite having an indefinite, near-eternal lifespan, this does not mean he is immortal. Lloyd is still susceptible to death through outside circumstances such as severe injury, poison, mana exhaustion, etc.
INVENTORY:
- Exsphere (+ key crest)
- Snow Rabbit Charm (there's a small hole on it somewhere, about the width of a crossbow bolt)
- Rheiard (nonfunctional :( )
- Gold mask (very tacky)
- Gels (3 Apple, 2 Lemon, 2 Orange)

which is why he's turning to the network. normally he wouldn't ask others about his friends, but this was kind of really sudden and despite having turned his sword against them just moments ago — as much as it pained him — he's still worried. ]
there names
[ aaaaand that's as far as the text goes before he switches to audio out of frustration bECAUSE FUCK TEXT. ]
--orget this! Uhh...
[ can you taste the awkward ]
I guess this goes to anyone that's listening. I'm on the lookout for some people. If any of you has heard of anyone named Colette, Genis, Raine, Sheena, Zelos, Presea, or Regal-- [ he slows down when he lists the names-- he's aware that it's quite a hefty list but they're all precious to him all the same. ] --I'd really appreciate it if you let me know. They were hanging around a couple of kids last time I saw them: one's a boy in black and blue clothes and the other is a girl in brown clothes.
They're my friends. I don't need to know exactly where they are. I just want to make sure they didn't get caught up in all this either, and if they did... [ he pauses. it's not quite hesitation, but if something happened to any of them and he wasn't aware of it (especially if he wasn't aware of it), he'd never forgive himself. ] I want to make sure that they're okay.
Thanks.
LOG SAMPLE:
Dwarven Vow #2: never abandon someone in need.
Regardless, it didn't stop him from panicking the moment he noticed his surroundings changing. What was once forest as far as the eye can see became grasslands, with only a speckle of trees here and there and (what he cold only guess was) a towering castle bathed in gold in the distance. Its splendor held his attention if only for a brief moment before he eventually grew bored of the sight and looked around. His rheiard, according to its fuel gauge, was sucked dry of its mana (which was odd because he had made sure it was fueled up before making his way to the Cape Fortress) and lay pathetically in the grass. There was nobody to be seen in his immediate surroundings, and any hint of forest was all but abolished. At first, this circumstance had drawn more curiosity than ire, but it's only a moment before he realizes that he was supposed to be keeping an eye on his friends as well as collecting the Centurion's cores... and he very well can't do that if he doesn't even know where he is.
This wasn't good.
"Colette! Genis!" Lloyd called out, running towards a random direction but still keeping the castle in sight. One by one, he shouted his friends' names, hoping to get some sort of answer. He may have put some distance between himself and his friends earlier, but Colette at the least should still be able to hear him-- he's pretty sure he didn't end up that far. But even as he repeated their names once, twice, a couple of them thrice, the only answer he got back was whistling wind and animal calls. Either he was alone in this odd land or his friends were taken to a different area far from him if they were even here. He's honestly hoping it was neither of those.
He cursed under his breath, looking towards the distant castle once again. From was he was able to see, there were no nearby travelers or any sort of intelligent life: just him, the grass, and the occasional bug. Not even those pesky fairies that dropped the "you're special" bomb on him were able to be seen. His best bet would be to head to that castle and hope that someone's heard of him and his friends in this strange land.
If it weren't for the vows that were drilled into his head (Dwarven Vow #18: it is better to be deceived than to deceive), that would have been the last time anyone told him that he was special.
